Any tips on how to best market yourself as a photographer?

I have this friend and thinking of going into business. She has some experience with doing stock photography and has done wedding as a backup photographer.  She has a bachelor’s degree in arts, freshly updated to a Nikon D90 and has been committing photography for about fours years.

She needs some advice on how to jump start getting her name around. I told her that she needs samples or have a portfolio to show folks. I think she also needs to give her credentials and advertise in every way possible.

I would think the most excellent entry level business would be a wedding photographer. Everyone seems to get married, you know, and they would need someone to shoot their photos.
